I have always admired pop art designs. While in high school, I have taken upon myself to paint my face onto a square canvas in the same format of this illustration. The painting hangs on the wall of my apartment to this day reminding me of the amazing art classes I have taken in my previous years. Needless to say, I wanted to re-live that feeling by creating an illustration that reminded me of that time, but was way more graphic and clean. Of course one of the most memorable references I used was the very well known Monroe Pop Art by Andy Warhol. I really tried to stay true to the pop art style when it came to color choices and the blocked out, almost printed, layered look. The person showcased in my Illustration is Detox, one of the RuPaul Drag race queens who never gave up on her punk rock look and always stayed classy while in drag. I admire Detox for her strength and beauty and wanted to create a great iconic graphic that resembles her beauty and style. I believe this graphic could be hung in any modern household that is in need of a little bit of color.
